Taking the plunge

I've been working on editing that big long abandoned fic that I mentioned a week or two back. I'm actually surprised that I'm still doing it, because I've returned to it a number of times since I wrote the first draft and quickly lost interest in trying to edit and improve it. I think I'm persevering this time because I've decided not to try to expand on it by writing new chapters to insert; I think the effort to add new ideas to the story was killing my enthusiasm. This time, I'm sticking with the base story and simply modifying it to improve it, without trying to add to it (unless there's a good reason to), and I've been pretty happy with it so far.

In fact, I'm so excited with how this is going that I'm going to do something that I've never done before: I'm going to start posting the chapters here even though I'm not done. This is a new concept for me. I really have no idea how people can post chapters of a long fic when the whole thing isn't written yet. When I write, I'm constantly going back to old chapters and changing things to fit as newer chapters are being developed, or adding things to earlier events, or reworking dialogue or descriptions. Heck, I didn't even write The Actor in chapter order - I wrote 1-5, then part of 6-8, then 13-15, then 11-12, then finished 6-8, and then wrote 9-10 (because man, at the time, 9-10 felt so long, drawn-out, and pointless; there was a point where I almost abandoned the entire story because those chapters were so difficult to write). Oh, and then I rewrote a major part of chapter 15 no less than five times from scratch. How do you people do this???

Thing is, I'm rather eager to get this out, and the first few chapters are in a pretty finished state, so I thought, why not start putting them out there? And, if I start posting them, that's more impetus for me to complete the entire story. So, expect the first chapter sometime later today. (Not now, because I'm taking my lunch hour to work on this one chapter...) Warning: lots of OC, arched Time Lady, trope-y goodness. Also, I reserve the right to change posted stuff without warning, because I'm sure I'll find something later in the story that will make me want to change something earlier. Here comes!

Ooh, exciting! Posting something completely different and posting before it's all done. It's good to break new ground!

It always is, but we'll be there to cheer you on (at least around the fall Jewish Holidays, anyway, where I won't be online)! Between company from out of country, the holidays, and work being done on my house, along with adding on another part-time job.... let's just say I'll be pretty busy!

Ouch! When it rains it pours! But it sounds like it'll be a good time. Happy holidays! :)

Thanks, it took us all summer to get a contractor to bid; they are all busy. Talk about rain, I think it's going to, I just heard thunder! Good! My tomatoes, etc. will get their water.

Oh man, we could use some rain. It finally rained on Friday for the first time this summer, and it was wonderful! (Except that I was walking a quarter mile to a marching band concert, with the snare drum and harness and carrying a music stand and a drum stand, and it rained from the moment I stepped out of the door to the moment I reached the pavilion. I was soaked.) Tomorrow's going to be 100 degrees. Bleah.
