And the corruption begins...

Today at work, we're trying to fix a really bad bug in the spinner in our game. A spinner is exactly what it sounds like - basically a roulette wheel with prizes on it, and the player pays in-game currency to spin it. The problem is that one of the prizes is not being awarded correctly and we have no idea why.

We probably won't be able to fix the issue before the next release (since we have no idea why it's happening), so I, as the game's product manager, am trying to come up with an alternative plan. One is to remove the offending prize, but that will anger the players, that it's being removed without being replaced with something of equal value. I came up with another idea, but I will completely admit that it's not fair to the players and it's not good and it's evil. (We also won't do it, but it was still an idea.) My husband, who works with me, looked at the idea and said, "Woah. That's some shady shit." To which I replied, "Product manager victorious! The laws of spinners are MINE!"

Ah, the descent into darkness is slippery and lined with bowls of ice cream.

Wow... just, wow! Product Manager Victorious... I like it!

Is there a way to explain to the players that there's a glitch, maybe the points for that prize could be stored until a fix is installed? People have no patience today, they want immediate gratification...

Oh, that's a great idea! But no, we can't do it. Our game is designed so that actions are rewarded automatically. We have no way to store up things and award them later. Wish we could, though - that would be a great way to handle it. What we're going to do is remove the prize but increase the payout of a different prize, so that the players get something in return until we can put the first prize back.

Sounds reasonably fair. They still get something in the meantime.

You're not the only person who's used this in reference to themselves... though I must admit that my "The laws of cataloging are MINE and they will obey ME!" lacks a certain panache. ;)

Oh! I forgot about the "and they will obey me!" part! I hope you have an audience to appreciate your declaration. I have to admit I got a few weird stares from my coworkers for that.

Well, it wasn't aloud... and if I had, no, my one co-worker sharing this room with me would be very confused! There is another one in another department who appreciates the Judoon "Prepare to be cataloged!" mini-poster I made, though.
