“Down this way!”

The tall man yanked his blond companion into the alley and they pelted at top speed with barely a glance behind them.

“It’s going to kill us, Doctor!” the girl cried as he skidded to a stop and, with frantic gestures, ushered her through a low door into a villa garden.

“Nonsense, Rose!” he replied as he dashed around, taking stock of what was at hand. “We just startled him. And honestly, he’s not murderous,” he grinned as he leapt over a low fence into a chicken coop, “he’s just hungry.”

As a fanged beast, about the size of a large dog, charged in and roared at Rose, the Doctor scooped up a chicken and tossed it into the animal’s mouth. It dropped to the ground and started on its meal.

“There! You see? Perfect.” He pulled a leash out of his pocket and slipped it over its head. Then he knelt and stroked it as it ate.

The villa door burst open and a man wearing a crimson coat lavishly embroidered with gilt thread strode out. “What’s going on out here?”

Rose gasped, and even the Doctor froze, stunned. Despite his younger countenance and shoulder-length chestnut hair, the stranger looked exactly like the Doctor.

“What?” blurted the Time Lord.

The man’s eyes flicked first to the beast, then to the Doctor, and finally locked on Rose. His initial confusion was replaced by a disarming smile.

“Ah, visitors!” He approached Rose and bowed, kissing her hand. “And such a beautiful one, as well. Welcome to my villa. You are?”

Rose blushed. “Rose Tyler.” He still held her hand, and she didn’t care.

“Rose. Enchanting! I am Giacomo Casanova.”

“Casanova?” Rose repeated, staring into the man’s mesmerising eyes.

The Doctor rolled his eyes at her credulousness. “Rose, come along.”

“Can’t we stay for a bit?” she pleaded, unable to tear her gaze from the man.

She sighed wistfully. “I’m sorry, Giacomo. We have to go,” she murmured, though she didn’t make a move to leave.

“A pity.” He caressed her cheek lightly with one hand. “I hope that you will favor me with another visit, soon.”

The Doctor stepped forward and caught Rose’s hand, leading her and the beast out of the garden. He called over his shoulder as they disappeared through the doorway, “We’ll come back, some day. I owe you a chicken.”

Ahh... so that explains why the Doctor owes him a chicken! Adorable story. Poor Rose, she wanted to visit a bit. I can see why the Doctor might not like that very much!

Thanks much! :) And you pointed out something in the story I didn't intend, so I fixed it. It isn't in character for the Doctor to be jealous of Rose's attentions, and that wasn't my intention to portray at all.

No... I just got the impression he would be rather protective of his companions, not necessarily that he was jealous.

Oh! I see, thanks! I got the wrong impression because, after I read what you wrote, I discussed it with my husband and he said that when he read it, he had thought that the Doctor's reaction was jealousy, so I assumed you thought the same thing.

Yes, protective is what I wanted.

A man would know, I guess, but from a female point of view, and knowing how the Doctor can get, I just thought that he gets extremely protective and wouldn't want any of his companions to be subjected to Casanova's "charms."

There's also the possibility that Rose (and Martha, for that matter) had intense feelings towards the Doctor. He might have recognized that Rose noticed that Casanova looked like him and she was acting out on it. He wanted to protect her from making a mistake like that. As for Rose's other feelings and motivations, I'm not sure if it crossed her mind that she would like to make the Doctor jealous, even as he was just protecting her. Or.... he might have been totally oblivious, as he seems sometimes.

That's where Donna comes in... she wasn't going to have any of that nonsense. I think that was a huge relief to the Doctor. She probably might have just gotten a kick out of Casanova and how he resembled the Doctor, and would have made fun of the Doctor for it!

I figure that if it had been Donna, it's very likely Casanova would have gotten slapped. :)

And yes, the Doctor's usually pretty oblivious. Gotta love him.

Yup... a good ole patented Donna slap would have come his way!

Indeed, gotta love him for being so oblivious!

Hahaha, that's hilarious! :D I love the pursuit with the beast, it reminded me so much of Love and Monsters, priceless :D Love your Casanova, with Rose all blushing and the Doctor being like "Okay, let's go now", haha. Really fun. And Ten going "what?!" as usual ;)

Thanks for sharing! ^_^

Thanks! Casanova was such a good show - I can only imagine how charismatic he (either the real one or Mr. Tennant's version) must have been in person. The only quibble I had with it was that Mr. Tennant really doesn't look very Italian... ;)
