18. Where do you get the most inspiration for your fics (aka "bunnies") from?
Most of my inspiration comes from the Doctor Who episodes themselves. I watch an episode and wonder about a specific character's backstory or about how that character will change due to his experience in the episode, and those thoughts spark a story idea. They're certainly the thought processes that got me into writing in the first place, and they still occur today. My two ongoing collections of short stories, A Teacher and a Housemaid and Calling the Doctor are both extensions of episodes ("Human Nature"/"Family of Blood" and "The Day of the Doctor", respectively).
I have a few story ideas that stem directly from wanting to write episode-like adventures, though I haven't started on most of them, due to lack of time. Mistaken Identity is an example of that, though it was also inspired by wanting to do an HP crossover and the fact that Mr. Tennant played both the Doctor and Barty Crouch, Jr. The Actor was inspired by another writer's fic, but there's a future meme question about that, so I'll discuss it later.
The other inspiration source I have is my husband. He comes up with some of the most interesting ideas for stories, but he has no interest in writing, so he feeds them to me. He came up with the idea of how the Doctor started the calculations in "The Message", for example. And when he saw someone point out that Clara and the Maitlands lived in Chiswick, he suggested I write the story that became "The Number." There are quite a number of other ideas he's suggested to me, and they're all waiting for their turn in the sun. He also lets me bounce ideas and questions off of him, and he helps me work through difficult plot points. Best of all, he likes to read what I write. ;) I don't know what I'd do without him.
