Snowflake Challenge - Day 5

And another pile of melty ice crystals. Don't track it in the house.

Day 5

Tardis Data Core: I don't think I've written a story longer than 1.5k words that didn't require at least one visit to TDC for information and research. I've also spent hours just browsing to learn about the DW universe (there is just so much out there, and I will never experience it all!), and it's inspiring!

Chrissie's Transcript Site: There's no way I could write DW stories without easy access to episode scripts. Despite my predilection for quoting and references, my memory's not that good. This is the go-to site for DW, Star Trek, and Stargate. Remember, the Doctor didn't say anything after "Rose Tyler..."

Wesleyan University Creative Writing Specialization at Coursera: I'm not a writer and I can use all the help I can get, so these courses, which I took last year, were great for learning how to construct plot, use descriptive language, and establish a style. There are four courses and one final project - Plot, Character, Setting/Description, and Style, and write a complete story and get it ready for publication - and you can take any ones you're interested in or do all five to complete the specialization and earn a certificate. Since I only write fanfic and I've written plenty of complete stories, I didn't take the final project. I also didn't find the Character course very helpful - it never really gave any instruction on how to create and design characters - but the others were fantastic. Best of all, you can access the lecture videos for free, so you can still learn even if you can't afford it. (You just don't get access to the assignments, the peer reviews, or the instructors, or get credit for completing the course/specialization.)
