Fandom character meme

In an attempt to think about something good and wonderful instead of, well, other stuff that might be happening today, I am posting a meme that I have stolen from frelling_tralk. Name a character and I'll answer the following. Of course DW is preferred, but I welcome other fandoms if I know them.

Why I like them:

Why I don't:

Favourite Season:

Favorite episode:

Favourite Line:

Unpopular opinion:

A wish:

An oh-god-please-dont-ever-happen:

And to start it all off, here's one...

Character: Rose Tyler

Why I like them: Rose was a very well-designed character, with a distinct history and established circle of family and friends, a set of strengths, and a set of weaknesses, and she behaved within her design. She was very real, behaving exactly as you would expect a teenager with no future who got caught up by a powerful alien and placed on a pedestal in the center of the universe to behave.

Why I don't: I dislike people like Rose in real life - self-absorbed, self-important, manipulative, jealous, suspicious.

Favourite Season: DW Series 1. She was so much better with the Ninth Doctor.

Favorite episode: "Dalek". For once, her belief that she knew better than the Doctor was actually correct, and she had the strength to stand up to the Doctor on it.

Favourite Line: I can't think of a specific line, but here are two scenes. First, when the Doctor regenerated, Rose immediately accused the new Doctor of kidnapping, then thought maybe he was a Slitheen. She was smart enough to not just take this new person's word for it and was willing to fight for her Doctor. Second, in "School Reunion", when the Doctor was telling her how hard it was for him to have to outlive everyone, "watching that happen to someone who you...", she immediately jumped on the unfinished sentence, trying to get him to finish it with the word "love". It was so true to her character, that she was more concerned with getting him to admit that he loved her than with understanding the personal difficulties he was sharing with her.

OTP: None. I wouldn't wish her on anyone.

Brotp: I can't think of anyone on-screen that she shared a close platonic relationship with. Maybe her relationship with the Ninth Doctor is something like that, but to me, it felt more like father-daughter.

Unpopular opinion: I really don't see any way that Rose and Meta's story ended happily.

A wish: Honestly, I wish that Series 2 hadn't ended with that trio of terrible episodes - "Fear Her", "Idiot's Lantern", and "Love and Monsters".

An oh-god-please-dont-ever-happen: Please don't bring Rose back again. It wasn't enough that she hijacked so much of series 4, but then she returned again in "The Day of the Doctor"? Yes, she was the Moment there, but no one realizes that that was a completely different character.

I agree with so much of this!! Especially: to me, it felt more like father-daughter because I never saw any romance between them, ever.

I forgot to ask for someone. Sorry. I'd like to hear about Clara, please?

When I first saw the scene where Nine kissed Rose, I was actually shocked, because there was nothing romantic leading into that and I was thinking, "There's no other way for him to take the Bad Wolf energy from her?"

Oh Clara. You had to ask. :D

Why I like them: I really can't think of anything I like about Series 8/9 Clara, so I'm just going to stick with Series 7b. I liked Clara's spunkiness and confidence in 7b. I really loved the way that she took the Doctor in stride in "The Bells of St. John" and met him on a somewhat equal footing (personality-wise, not intelligence- or experience-wise).

Why I don't: I could write an essay on this. How to distill it down to a meme? Clara was a nebulous character who was perfect at everything and became exactly what the episode needed. I don't like how arrogant she is and how she spent series 8 and 9 manipulating/forcing both the Doctor and Danny to be what she wanted them to be. I don't like how Clara tried to be the Doctor and was rewarded for it by becoming the Doctor. And on a more meta level, I don't like how she became the reason for everything: why the Doctor became a Time Lord and then wanted to explore the universe, how he chose his TARDIS, and how she was "born to save the Doctor" and was the reason for each and every one of his successes. It has been 2.5 seasons of The Clara Show, which is why I pretty much consider DW as a show that ended in 2013 and hopefully will resume this year.

Favourite Season: Series 7b, but only by default.

Favorite episode: "The Bells of St. John". Clara was an interesting character in that, and it's a great episode. There are other Clara episodes that I like more than TBoSJ, but invariably, I hated Clara's parts in those episodes.

Favourite Line: For some reason, I really love it when Clara tries to be the Witch in the Well - "Off you pop!"

OTP: Like I said for Rose, I wouldn't wish Clara on anyone.

Brotp: I much preferred Clara with Eleven, probably because they were saddled with unrequited relationship issues.

Unpopular opinion: "The Zygon Invasion" / "The Zygon Inversion" is really a terrible story, poorly conceived, designed, and written. The Doctor's big speech doesn't save it. (To me, it's very obvious the speech was written first and the writer was told to get the Doctor to that point.)

A wish: Ha. If it's a genie wish, then I wish that series 8 and 9 never happened.

An oh-god-please-dont-ever-happen: Please don't create a series of adventures with Clara and Ashildr. Yes, I know it's going to happen (at the very least, Big Finish is thinking about it, though I don't think they have the rights to the Twelfth Doctor era yet), but I wish it wouldn't.

Amy Pond, please? I'd like to hear your thoughts about her.

You're so right about Rose in "School Reunion". The Doctor tells her about his pain but the thing she cares about is his feelings for her. That's why I don't think Ten told her much about the Time War and what he's been through. She'd only answer "you have me now".

I'm thinking of stealing the meme and doing it myself. If anyone is interested, that is.

I hope you do the meme! I already know which character I will ask you for. :)

Oo, good one! Amy Pond...

Why I like them: I love Amy. Courageous, compassionate, and devoted to both the Doctor and Rory. She also stands up for herself and calls the Doctor on his BS. She's also a lot of fun to watch.

Why I don't: Amy has the same problems that all of Moffat's women have. First, she's obsessed with the Doctor, to the point that he's her entire life through the end of series 5. Second, for a drifter supporting herself as a kissogram, she's an expert at everything she tries to do.

Favourite Season: Series 5 by far. Of course, series 5 was all about her, so it should be her best season.

Favorite episode: I really love her in "The Big Bang", especially the ending at the wedding. I also like her in "Vincent and the Doctor", but I think that Amy shines best when she's fighting for herself and not when she's smug and trying to force the world to conform to her own beliefs, and thus I'd have to choose "Eleventh Hour".

Favourite Line: "She's a woman, and she's the TARDIS!" "Did you wish really hard?"

OTP: Amy/Rory. Period.

Brotp: Once Amy stopped considering the Doctor as a romantic or sexual partner, her relationship with the Doctor was perfect.

Unpopular opinion: I'm not sure I have an unpopular opinion about her. The only thing I can think of is that I don't find Karen Gillan to be pretty.

A wish: I wish that we could strike "Dark Water"/"Death in Heaven" from continuity, not only because of the mess they made of, well, almost everything, but also because the concept of Cyberman Rory and Cyberman Amy just turns my stomach. Though I have to admit that I have a half-written story about them somewhere. Warning: it's not pretty.

An oh-god-please-dont-ever-happen: Please, BBC, don't release any stories about Amy and Rory after "Angels Take Manhattan". Let us imagine their happy life together.

I never thought about it. But if you don't like thei idea, you can always say they didn't change because they travelled with the Doctor so long that they DNA changed. Or they were just "strong" (appratently, it works).

I think season 5 is the best for Amy, too. Although I still don't know what to think of her comment about snogging the Doctor just after she got married. I'm not surprised Rory was uncertain of her love for so long...

I did the meme by the way, it's here if you still want to ask me about a character:
