Mambo #5

The friend I made at the Raleigh Comic Con last year posted the following on Facebook. I think it's just awesome and wanted to share it.

A little bit of Jackman in my life
A little bit of Benedict by my side
A little bit of Richard is all I need
A little bit of Tom is what I see
A little bit of David in the sun
A little bit of Martin all night long
A little bit of Barrowman here I am... a little bit of all cause I'm a fan.

Heh that's perfect! Although I am not sure which Richard we are talking about? I agree with the rest of it though!

I was trying to fit Vic into it somewhere but most are two-syllable words. Well, his official name is Victor, so I'll go with that ;) And I guess I can use William instead of Bill also. Problem solved.

I believe she's talking about Richard Armitage, whom I know nothing about, but like you, I agree with the rest! :) I would probably replace Hugh Jackman with Chris Evans, though. Actually, to be more faithful to myself, I'd probably replace all of the mentions with different DW actors and actresses.

Agreed on the replacements. Although... I waited in line over an hour to try to speak with Karl Urban once. Hey, he was Eomer and Bones! :D And he's funny! :DDDD

Did I ever tell you my Shatner and Bakula story?

No, you haven't! Please tell me!

Okay, I'll tell it quickly since I have work to get ready for. :D

I have to go back to 1997 to start this story. My best friend and I went to a Star Trek convention (we weren't calling them "cons" then) in Portland, Oregon. William Shatner was the guest of honor that day. We even went wearing t-shirts that said "Top Ten Reasons Why Captain Kirk Is Better Than Captain Picard". (The reasons have been changed on more recent versions of the shirt, ftr.)

During the Q&A part we ran from the back to the front. Ended up sitting down on the ground while he randomly picked people to answer. He can be an a**, but he's also funny as hell. We were both laughing very hard, and when we're laughing that hard it sounds like we're screaming. And he suddenly pointed right at us and said "You're screaming, come on up here." It was awesome, he liked the shirts, and someone got a Polaroid of us up there with him.

Afterward my dad, who drove us, made a point of telling us that Shatner looked very disappointed when we told him our ages. (I was a month shy of 14, and she was about 3 months shy of 15.)

Fast forward sixteen and a half years. It's the day of the DW 50th anniversary and I'm at Austin Comic Con. (Never seen any con with such long lines just to get in.) I wasn't fighting to see the 50th because I had a Stan Lee autograph to get a friend as a combo birthday/Christmas present, and I bought a Two Captains photo op. (Being there also meant I got two photos on my phone with James Marsters, who told me a little story after I mentioned I liked his playing Buzz Aldrin in the moon landing anniversary special.) I knew I had a great line for when I went in for the photo op.

So I finally get into the area. Shatner and Bakula are sitting down on stools. I was directed to go around them and behind. As I did I said, "Hello again, Mr. Shatner. It's been over sixteen years."

He was startled, but didn't look behind at me.

Bakula, on the other hand, turned to give me a once-over and said, "What were you, four?!"

I later told him he was a decade off, but he probably did successfully razz the Shat over it.

That is fantastic! I wish he had remembered you (not likely, of course - just too many people pass through his life), but it's wonderful that Bakula played along. :D Thanks for telling me about it!

I love it! It's good to be a fan.
